Useful Sims 3 Cheats For Machinimists!

This is a list of EA Sims 3 Cheat Codes that I have used to make my Machinima that I think you guys will find invaluable when making your own movies. I’ll give you a list of the codes and why they are useful for machinima production.

To bring up the Sims 3 Cheat Window, first press Ctrl+Shift+C

Basic Cheats
These basic cheats are useful for adding money to your sims household so you can build them a beautiful set full of realistically placed furnishings, For removing the over-head plumbob and speech bubbles and for making all clothing including NPC and Career outfits available. Where there is [on/off] this means you must choose one or the other option you do not type the brackets in the Cheat Window.

• kaching (Adds §1,000 to active household.)
• motherlode (Adds §50,000 to active household.)
• unlockoutfits [on/off] (Enter this before going into CAS (Create A Sim) in order to use career and NPC (Non-Player Character) outfits, such as a the Grim Reaper costume.)
• freerealestate (Allows Sims to move into houses for free.)
• hideheadlineeffects [on/off] (Shows or hides talk/thought balloons and the plumbob above Sim heads.)

Debug Mode
To allow you to toggle the Sims 3 debug mode on and off type testingcheatsenabled [true/false] into the Cheat Window and press enter.

This mode allows you to do some very useful cheats for movie making, for example:

slowMotionViz [0-8]
Puts the visuals of the game in slow motion.  Entering a “level” value is optional.  Valid values range from 0 = normal speed to 8 = slowest. Great for getting those action shots in-game rather than editing them later.

The Mailbox
With debug mode enabled you can go to the mailbox on your sims lot and Shift-Click it, this will bring up a pie menu with some useful cheats on it

These include:

• Make All Happy
• Make Needs Static

These two are great if you don’t want the cast of your machnima to get grumpy and keep needing to pee all the while your setting up scenes or recording other sims. To make the needs go back to normal there is also a button called:

• Make Needs Dynamic

Also on this pie menu are:

• Make Friends For Me
• Make Me Know Everyone

These are very useful to toggle your sims relationships which is great as you don’t want to spend ages building up and breaking down relationships in order to get the right interactions from your sims cast. Finally from the Mailbox pie menu are:

• Force Visitor
• Force NPC

These force a particular Sim or NPC to arrive on your Lot, great if you quickly want to video the mail man arriving or want a neighbour to pop over.

The Floor
Shift+click on the ground will bring up a different pie menu:

• Teleport
• Build/Buy on Lot

Teleport is brilliant for time-saving, moving your cast around whilst setting up scenes and Build/Buy is good if you want to edit a community lot quickly to suit your needs.

All Sims
Shift+click on any sim will bring up a pie menu with these options:

• Trigger Age Transition
• Add to active household/family
• Favorite Music (after version 1.7)
• Edit Sim in CAS (after certain patch) (It does not work on any occult type of sim, including vampires)

 

Changing your sims age is great if your machinima story is progressing through someones life in some way such as in The Not-So Simple Life when Isobelle flashes back to her childhood. Add to active household is very good if you want to be able to control an NPC or a neighbour for a short period.

Active Sim
Shift+click on the active Sim will bring up a pie menu with these options:

• Modify Traits for Active Sim
• Trigger age transition

Modifying the traits of your active sim is great if you want to be able to trigger a particular animation associated with a trait and your sim doesn’t currently have that trait.

World Adventures
This expansion added two great new cheats for setting the scenes in your movies:

• buyDebug (This unlocks a new Buy Mode slot that will let you purchase many debug object Items that developers use like tomb objects, collectibles, spawners and decorative or special objects can be used on your home and community lots.)
•  allowObjectsOnRoofs [on/off] (Allows you to place objects on rooftops.)

Late Night
This brought some cool new set options for making machinima such as apartment buildings and some great vampire cast members and here are some cheats for editing them.

• RBBB on or restrictbuildbuyinbuildings [true/false] (Allows you to edit public spaces like lobbies or entrance halls)
• unlockoutfits [on/off] (Enables vampire teeth in CAS, find them under accessories.)

Generations
The most useful new cheat codes Ive found as a machinimist are the ones added in the newest expansion Generations as they put in a specific Movie Maker Mode!

To toggle Movie Maker Mode on and off type: moviemakerCheatsenabled [true/false] into the cheat bar

With Movie Make Mode enabled if you Shift+Click on a Sim it will bring up a new menu with these really useful cheats which can save a lot of time when making movies.

• Animation (Plays a specific animation on a Sim, this is great as it saves so much time waiting around for a sim to do a specific animation or interaction.)
• Set Looping [On/One-Off] (Sets animations to be looped or only play once.)
• Disable All Lookouts (Stops the sims looking at a specific point.)
• Edit in CAS (Brings the clicked Sim into Create-a-Sim, where they can be fully edited.)
• Sim Shutdown (Prevents all Sims for doing anything other than player initiated interactions.)

In addition to this, if you Shift+Right Click an NPC it will make them selectable so that you can also use any of the above cheats with them too! great for making waiters or shop assistants serve your sim.
